Navigating inland in a sailboat has its own challenges, specifically bridges and power lines. Leaving Ft Lauderdale we had to pass two drawbridges.
Doing this isn’t hard: you call the bridge office on the radio before you get there and they’ll tell you when the next opening will be. It’s a bit unnerving though, even though consciously you know there plenty of room, it feels like you’re clearing it by mere inches. it can be quite vertiginous.
But for everyone in a car who has sat their waiting while the drawbridge went up and down, trust me, we go through as fast as we safely can.
